The womenโs Olympic basketball tournament kicks off this Sunday in Paris. Team USA, going for their eighth straight gold medal, starts against Japan on Monday. They have the best players but aren’t the only stars to watch.

Li Yueru | China
Nicknamed the “Female Shaquille O’Neal” by Chinese fans, Li Yueru is a 6-foot-7 center who averaged 14.8 points per game on 78.6% shooting at the last Olympics. She shined in the 2022 FIBA World Cup final against Team USA with 19 points and 12 rebounds.
Gabby Williams | France
Williams has dual citizenship and was once an alternate in high jump for Team USA before focusing on basketball. She played for France’s bronze-medal team in the last Olympics and averaged 8.4 points for Seattle Storm in the WNBA this year.
Diana Taurasi, at age 42, is aiming to become the first player to win six Olympic gold medals . Known as “White Mamba,” sheโs still scoring big, averaging 16.1 points before her last Olympics.
