The Philadelphia 76ers have parted ways with Pete Nance, waiving the young forward from their two-way roster spot.
If the name sounds familiar, it should – Pete comes from NBA royalty. He’s the younger brother of Atlanta Hawks‘ Larry Nance Jr. and son of Cleveland Cavaliers legend Larry Nance.
The 23-year-old’s stint with the Sixers was brief, lasting just over a month. He got into one NBA game with Philadelphia after starting his season with the Cleveland Charge in the G League.
His G League numbers this year have been pretty impressive. In 13 games split between the Charge and the Sixers’ affiliate Delaware Blue Coats, Nance put up solid stats:
* 17.1 points per game
* 6.8 rebounds
* 3.2 assists
* 1.8 blocks
* Shot 50% from the field and 37.5% from three-point range
He showed real potential in his 34 minutes per game at the G League level, though he barely saw the court with the main Sixers squad.
The timing isn’t random. NBA teams have to fully guarantee two-way contracts if players are still on the roster after January 7. By waiving Nance now, the Sixers will only need to pay him for the month or so he spent with the team.
If Nance heads back to the G League, he’d return to the Cleveland Charge, who still hold his rights.
The move leaves Philadelphia with an open two-way spot, making them one of just three NBA teams with a vacancy they can fill.
