A rookie asking for advice from an experienced player isn’t unusual.
Philadelphia 76ers‘ first-round pick, Jared McCain, is eager to learn before his debut season. Heโs not just looking within the team but reaching out to veterans outside as well. Patrick Beverley shared on his podcast that McCain messaged him for tips.
“Just wanted to reach out and ask for some advice into the NBAโฆ I just want to learn as much as possible before I step on the court. Iโll take anything. What are some tips for succeeding as a rookie? How do I get on the floor? How do I get through slumps?โ Beverley read aloud .
Veteran Guidance
Beverley, who recently signed with Hapoel Tel Aviv B.C., told McCain to send him his numberโa kind move from the seasoned guard. Though Beverley’s career started overseas and he had a short stint with the 76ers last season, playing 47 games before being traded to Milwaukee Bucks, he remains a valuable source of wisdom.
Fans might think it’s great seeing young players so proactive in seeking guidance.
McCain’s eagerness to connect with veterans like Beverley shows he’s serious about his career. At Duke, he averaged impressive stats: 14.3 points, 5 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.1 steals per game while shooting over 46% from the field and more than 41% from three-point range.
Drafted No.16 overall by the 76ers this year, McCain has a good shot at early playing time if he can gel with stars like Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and new addition Paul George. If he starts strong , he could be crucial for a team aiming for its best title chance in years.
