Anthony Edwards Fined Again After Profane Outburst, Total Penalties Exceed $200K

NBA superstar Anthony Edwards just can’t seem to keep his wallet closed, getting slapped with another fine – this time for $100,000 after dropping an F-bomb in a post-game interview.

The Minnesota Timberwolves guard was feeling pretty good after beating the Houston Rockets on December 27th. Maybe a little too good. When asked about the game, Edwards let loose with some choice words that didn’t sit well with NBA brass.

"I don’t do overtime, so f*** it," he said on live TV.

The league wasn’t amused. Executive VP Joe Dumars dropped the hammer on Sunday, citing Edwards’ growing habit of colorful language during interviews.

Here’s the crazy part: This isn’t even his first rodeo with the NBA’s disciplinary office this season.

In just the past few weeks, the 23-year-old has racked up an eye-popping $235,000 in fines. That includes $35,000 for an obscene gesture in November, another $25,000 for cursing after a win against Golden State, and $75,000 for criticizing refs following a Warriors loss.

Sure, when you’re making $42 million a year like Edwards is, these fines might seem like pocket change. But they’re starting to add up.

On the court, Edwards is having a stellar season, averaging nearly 25 points per game across 31 matchups. He showed up big in that Rockets game too, dropping 24 points with five rebounds and three assists.

But the Timberwolves’ front office has got to be wondering: At what point does their young star learn to watch his mouth?

The NBA made it clear in their statement that Edwards’ history of inappropriate language factored into this latest fine. It’s starting to look like those post-game interviews might end up being the most expensive part of his season.

For a guy who’s quickly becoming one of the league’s brightest stars, Edwards might want to invest in a good thesaurus – or maybe just count to ten before grabbing that microphone.
