Anthony Edwards plans to shake off his All-Star game absence and return to action this Friday when his Timberwolves face the Houston Rockets.
The 23-year-old star had to sit out Sunday’s showcase event with groin tightness, but he’s not too worried about it.
“My groin has been messed up for a minute now,” Edwards said. “After these three or four days, I should be OK.”
He’s been having a monster season, putting up a career-best 27.5 points per game while shooting lights out from everywhere on the court – 44% overall and an impressive 41% from three-point range.
The timing of the All-Star break couldn’t be better for Edwards. It gives him a perfect chance to rest up before the final push toward the playoffs.
Sources say he was also fighting off a cold leading up to the All-Star game. Edwards mentioned he might have tried to play with a longer warm-up, but there just wasn’t enough time to test his groin properly.
It’s been a tough year for Minnesota. After nearly grabbing the top spot in the Western Conference last season, they’ve taken a big step back since trading Karl Anthony-Towns. Now they’re just trying to hang onto a play-in tournament spot.
But Edwards has been their bright spot. Besides his scoring, he’s also chipping in 5.8 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game.
The Wolves will need him healthy for their playoff push. Most sportsbooks have them pegged for the play-in tournament this spring, but with a healthy Edwards, they might just surprise some people.
