The NBA Draft for 2024 kicks off on Wednesday, and all eyes are on Bronny James.
Even though Bronny isn’t expected to be a first-round pick, he might still get chosen during the second round on Thursday.
Bronny, who stands at 6-foot-1, had a tough season with USC. He only averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game while shooting 36.6% from the field and just 26.7% from three-point range over 25 games. His season was also delayed due to a cardiac arrest last summer .
Bronny has been linked to five teams but only worked out for the Lakers and Suns. Let’s rank these teams based on how well they fit with him:
Team Rankings:
The Timberwolves have shown interest in Bronny and hold the 27th and 37th picks in the draft. However, Rich Paul is skeptical about this fit due to uncertainties around the franchise’s sale. From a basketball perspective, it doesn’t make much sense either unless they want to boost attendance for their G League team.
Minnesota had one of its best seasons recently but is deep in talent already. Even if drafted by them, Bronny likely wouldn’t see much playing time initially as they focus on re-signing key players like Jordan McLaughlin and Monte Morris.
If the Lakers pass on Bronny, Dallas might take him at pick number 58 because of his ties with GM Nico Harrison. Dante Exum impressed last season but isn’t seen as a long-term solution at backup point guard for Dallas.
Fans might think it’s exciting that Bronny could fit well with Luka Doncic’s style of play if his defense holds up in the NBA.
A potential team-up between LeBron and Bronny would be both captivating and distracting ! The Lakers need bench upgrades as they ranked low in bench points during both regular season (28.4) and playoffs (12). While Bronny may not score much initially, his playmaking could help improve these numbers.
However, acquiring better three-point shooters would maximize his skills—a tough task given their limited cap space (-$82.9M). Spending picks on Bronny and Isaiah Collier might be their best option.
2. Phoenix Suns
Like the Lakers, Phoenix lacks depth after committing most of their cap space to star players ! They scored fewest bench points last season (2,179), affecting playoff performance negatively.
Though adding Bronny wouldn’t elevate Phoenix’s ceiling significantly; he’d raise its floor by potentially filling in as point guard while learning under Kevin Durant & Devin Booker’s mentorships!
But realistically speaking: Suns owning only one selection (#22 overall) makes drafting him unlikely without trading down irresponsibly which isn’t ideal either way around here folks…
Toronto seems like an ideal landing spot holding #31 overall pick where young talents can develop without immediate pressure ! With backcourt set featuring Immanuel Quickley & Gradey Dick; worst guard depth across league offers ample opportunity if outperforming Javon Freeman-Liberty averaging mere seven points/1 assist over past twenty-two games played previously…
Defensive-minded guards such as himself suit Toronto perfectly given recent struggles post-trading OG Anunoby resulting poor defensive ratings throughout January onwards…
What do you think? Would you like to see Bronny join any particular team?
