Does Jaylen Brown need more reasons to prove his critics wrong?
Throughout his career, Brown has often been overlooked. From being left out of All-NBA and All-Defensive teams to trade rumors and always seen as second to Jayson Tatum on the Celtics, he’s had plenty of motivation.
This summer, he almost had the last laugh by winning his first NBA title and Finals MVP. However, he faced disappointment when he was left off the Team USA roster for Paris. Brown blamed Nike, the team’s sponsor, for his exclusion and criticized Grant Hill for calling him a “conspiracy theorist.”
Hill later tried to make amends by assuring Brown he’d be considered for Team USA in 2028.
Brad Stevens’ Perspective:
Celtics president Brad Stevens thinks this snub might actually help the team. He believes that Brown plays best when he’s angry and has something to prove. “One of the best things about Jaylen is whether he gets the call [for 2028] or not, he’s going to use it as motivation,” Stevens told The Boston Globe. “I know he’s working hard and excited about improving.”
Fans might think this drama could push Brown even harder next season.
The Celtics start their new season as +300 favorites to repeat their title win. Hill’s actions might have unintentionally fired up a player already full of determination.
What do you think? Will this add fuel make Jaylen unstoppable?
