Bronny James Admits Summer League Slump

Bronny James’ first games in a Lakers jersey haven’t been great, especially during his Summer League debut in Las Vegas.

Struggles on the Court:

In their game against the Rockets, the Lakers lost 99-80. Bronny scored only 8 points, hitting just 3 out of 14 shots. He admitted, “I just feel like I’m in a little slump right now.” Despite this, he’s ready to take on any role given to him in his first professional season.

Bronny is open to playing at any level, even if it means joining the G League squad in South Bay. “I’m just looking forward to any basketball I play, no matter what level I’m playing at,” he said confidently.

Comparisons and Challenges:

This weekend’s game brought comparisons between Bronny and Cam Whitmore from the Rockets. Whitmore scored 20 points with impressive stats across the board. In contrast, Bronny had three turnovers and struggled overall. After three Summer League games, including those in California Classic clashes, Bronny has made only 23.1% of his shots and missed all attempts from beyond the arc.

Fans believe that patience is key here; it’s too early to judge harshly.

Lakers’ summer league coach Dane Johnson believes Bronny is still adjusting but shows promise for a long career ahead. “Shoot, he’s going to have a long career,” Johnson remarked.

Agent’s Standpoint:

Dalton Knecht has been performing well for the Lakers with notable stats against Houston. Meanwhile, Bronny’s agent Rich Paul told ESPN that they’re not interested in two-way contracts with other teams: “If you won’t give him a real deal, there’s nothing to talk about.”

Defensive Improvements:

Even though his offense needs work, Bronny’s defense is improving. He recorded two steals against Houston and guarded rookie Reed Shepard closely throughout the game.

“I’ve known Reed since fifth grade,” said James Jr., showing familiarity with his opponent while trying hard on defense.

Sometimes we forget these young players are still growing into their roles!
