Cade Cunningham has been waiting for his moment to shine with the Detroit Pistons.
Early Struggles and Injuries:
Drafted first overall in 2021, Cade’s journey hasn’t been smooth. Although he’s now in his fourth NBA season, it doesn’t feel like it because he missed most of his second year due to a shin injury and surgery. Plus, playing for one of the least successful teams recently hasn’t helped him stand out.
Performance Amidst Challenges:
While not flawless, Cade put up impressive stats last season: 22.7 points, 7.5 assists, and 4.3 rebounds per game with career-high shooting percentages. Despite these efforts, the Pistons ended with a dismal 14-68 record.
Fans really hope this year will be different.
With a fresh start this season under coach J.B. Bickerstaff and GM Trajan Langon, alongside new veteran teammates, there’s optimism for improvement.
A Promising Start:
In their opening game against Indiana Pacers, Cade had a slow start but caught fire in the third quarter scoring 18 points on nearly perfect shooting. He wrapped up the night with an impressive 28 points along with eight assists and five rebounds.

Cade still needs to work on his three-point shots but showed why he was picked first overall by attacking the basket effectively when he’s in form.
Looking Ahead:
The Pistons might face challenges this season too; however, having experienced players like Tobias Harris, Malik Basely, and Tim Hardaway can help ease defensive pressure off Cade. Young talents like Jaden Ivey and Jalen Duren also need to step up their game.
If Wednesday’s performance is any clue, Cade seems ready for an All-Star-worthy season!
