Caitlin Clark decided not to join the WNBA’s All-Star weekend three-point contest because she needed rest.
She told reporters that playing basketball non-stop for a year has been exhausting.
Clark said, “Honestly, I think just, rest. I’ve been playing basketball for a year straight. It’s not an easy thing to just show up to and shoot off of a rack. It’s not something I’ve ever done before. It’s not something I’ve had a lot of time to practice. I’ve been focusing on helping my team win games.”
Clark’s Busy Schedule
The NCAA’s all-time leading scorer believes she’ll have many chances in the future to participate in events like this but right now, she needs some downtime. “I need a break and I need to take some time to myself,” she added.
Most of her Fever teammates had the whole offseason to prepare for 2024, but Clark had only five weeks after finishing her college career on April 7 before her professional debut on May 14 against the Connecticut Sun.
Fans might think it’s smart she’s taking care of herself first.
It’s been an up-and-down season for Clark so far. She’s leading the WNBA in assists per game (8.2) and is third in three-point field goals (71), but also has the most turnovers (145). She made history with 19 assists in one game recently.
Indiana started poorly with a 3-10 record but improved to 8-5 since then. The league will pause for a month after All-Star weekend, though some players will head to Paris for the Summer Olympics.
Even though she won’t be in Friday night’s contest, Clark will play in Saturday’s All-Star Game as part of “Team WNBA.”
