Chris Paul just hit a major milestone, and it’s got the basketball world buzzing!
CP3 Climbs the Assist Ladder
So, here’s the scoop: Chris Paul, the Point God himself, has now moved up to second place on the all-time NBA assists list. He finally leapfrogged over Jason Kidd with his 12,092nd assist during a game against New Orleans. Now, he’s only got John Stockton ahead of him, who sits pretty with a whopping 15,806 assists. But let’s be real, catching Stockton would mean CP3 playing well into his 40s. I mean, can you imagine? At 39, that’s a tall order, even for someone as legendary as Paul.
A Night to Remember in San Antonio
Last night was one for the books. Paul’s historic assist came when he dished the rock to Victor Wembanyama, who sank a 25-foot three-pointer. “Vic had been out a few games,” Paul mentioned postgame. “He came back just in time.” And boy, did he make it count! Paul wrapped up the night with 11 points and 13 assists, pushing his career total to 12,099. He’s also become just the second player ever to rack up 600 games with at least 10 assists, still trailing behind Stockton’s 863. In my opinion, that’s just insane!
Chris Paul has to Average 8 assists for 8 seasons to pass John Stockton. Stop underrating Stockton.

Teammates and Rivals Show Love
After the buzzer, everyone from teammates to opponents was singing Paul’s praises. His interim coach Mitch Johnson couldn’t stop gushing, “We are witnessing greatness. A lot of us have competed against him. We’ve all watched him.” And let’s not forget about Wemby, who’s been on the receiving end of many of Paul’s dimes this season. “I got to be on this one. Just the celebration, it was the best,” Wemby said, clearly stoked to be part of the moment.
Even Pelicans coach Willie Green, who once shared the court with Paul, chimed in. “His mind is still working like he’s processing the game,” Green noted. It’s like CP3’s got a basketball supercomputer in his head or something!
A Heartfelt Locker Room Moment
Back in the locker room, Paul was celebrated with a basketball and a plaque listing every player he’s ever assisted. “I can’t say nothing but thank you. Seriously, seriously man,” Paul said, clearly touched. “To be away from my family, y’all became my family.” It’s moments like these that remind us why we love this game.
So, what do you think? Can CP3 keep dishing out assists and maybe, just maybe, catch Stockton? Or will Father Time finally catch up with him?
