Victor Wembanyama had an amazing rookie season with the San Antonio Spurs.
Standing at 7-foot-4 and boasting a wingspan of nearly 8 feet, he dominated both inside and outside the paint. In his first NBA season, he averaged 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 3.6 blocks per game.
Chris Paul spoke highly of Wembanyama during an introductory news conference for his new role as point guard: “I played against [Wembanyama] this season, and I tell you there’s probably no player in the league that everybody in the league talks about after the game like him,” Paul said. “Everybody has to adjust to stuff.”
Impact on Defense:
Wembanyama’s defensive skills were a big part of his success. His presence alone made players think twice about attacking the basket when he was around. He even made a strong case for Defensive Player of the Year but lost to Rudy Gobert from the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Fans might think Wembanyama will win many awards in future seasons.
His ability to change games with his defense is something special. Many believe that it’s only a matter of time before he wins Defensive Player of the Year himself.
What do you think? Will Wembanyama dominate for years to come?
