It is official that DeMar DeRozan will not return to the Chicago Bulls next season.
New Team Shows Interest in DeMar DeRozan
DeRozan is now one of the most wanted free agents. The Los Angeles Lakers were interested, but their chances are slim after LeBron James signed a new max contract. Now, the Sacramento Kings are looking at a sign-and-trade for the six-time All-Star.
“Certainly, DeMar DeRozan has played his last game for the Chicago Bulls,” said Adrian Wojnarowski on Sports Center. “The one team that has been dug in with him and trying to find a sign-and-trade scenario are the Sacramento Kings. They’ve been talking this week. They’re going to need a third team involved in a sign-and-trade. Chicago… they don’t want to take back significant contracts. Those conversations continue… Sacramento right now is the team to watch between now and when the moratorium ends over the next 24 to 48 hours.”
Other teams are also interested in DeRozan.
The Market for DeMar DeRozan
Finding teams that fit his mid-range skills took time. The Kings need another scorer and have looked at Brandon Ingram and Lauri Markkanen before focusing on DeRozan for their wing position needs. Miami Heat also wants him as they seek more star power alongside Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo. The Lakers still hope to get him too.

Best Fit for His Skills
Of all these teams, Sacramento Kings might suit him best offensively even though he won’t help much with defense issues there. He’d relieve some scoring pressure from players like De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis while filling their small forward gap nicely—though touches might decrease slightly for Fox and Sabonis themselves—but adding firepower could make them dark horses in Western Conference after last year’s disappointing finish.
