Dennis Schröder criticizes NBA trade deadline system as dehumanizing

Dennis Schröder isn’t holding back about the NBA’s trade deadline – and he’s got plenty of reasons to be frustrated. The veteran guard has been traded five times in his 12-year career, including a recent move from Brooklyn to Golden State. Now, he might be on the move again.

The topic really hit home for him after Luka Doncic’s shocking trade to Los Angeles this weekend. Schröder couldn’t believe how Dallas treated their superstar after everything he’d done for the team.

“Not even Steph Curry’s safe probably when I see that,” Schröder said. “It’s a f—ed up business.”

The 31-year-old point guard didn’t stop there. He compared the NBA’s trading system to “modern slavery,” acknowledging it’s a loaded comparison.

“Yeah, of course, we make a lot of money and we can feed our families,” he explained. “But at the end of the day if they say, ‘You’re not coming to work tomorrow, you’re going over there,’ they can decide that. They got to change that a little bit.”

His comments sparked immediate backlash online, with many fans criticizing him for making the slavery comparison while earning millions.

Schröder tried to clarify his perspective: “I think everybody who’s in here is blessed. But if you really think about it, it is kind of crazy that the organization can tell you, ‘We want you to be team-first, but you’re going over there.'”

The timing of his comments is particularly interesting. Sources say the Warriors are actively looking to trade him as part of a package deal for a superstar player.

For Schröder, it’s another reminder of just how quickly things can change in the NBA. One day you’re settling into a new team, the next you’re packing your bags again.

The Doncic trade especially bothers him because it means the Slovenian star can’t even sign the same supermax extension he was eligible for in Dallas.

“It’s a lot,” Schröder said, summing up the emotional toll of the constant uncertainty.
