The Mavericks have clinched their third trip to the NBA Finals after defeating the Timberwolves 124-103, winning the series 4-1.
Upcoming Showdown
With the Mavericks set to face the Celtics starting June 6, there are many stories to follow. This will be Luka Doncic’s first time in the Finals, Jayson Tatum’s second chance for a ring, and Kristaps Porzingis facing his old team.
After their victory, Luka was thrilled. “We’re going to the NBA Finals,” he said during the celebration. “Just can’t believe it, man.”
Boston’s Redemption
Boston missed out on a title in 2022 when they lost to Golden State in six games. Now they have another shot at glory within three years. Meanwhile, this is Dallas’ first finals appearance since their championship win against Miami in 2011.
“Boston’s in our way,” Kyrie said postgame while stressing living in the moment. “Nothing’s guaranteed in this league.”
Kyrie also highlighted teamwork from his experience with LeBron James and Cleveland Cavaliers: “We couldn’t have done it without working together every day.”
Celtics’ Preparation
The Celtics have been resting since sweeping Indiana and are hopeful Kristaps Porzingis will recover from his ankle injury for Game 1. Coach Joe Mazzulla stated, “He’s progressing well and working hard.”
Back in 2022, Golden State’s experience won over Boston. Now Boston feels more prepared with added experience compared to Dallas.
“It’s a new challenge,” Al Horford said about facing Dallas instead of Golden State. He has stepped up during Porzingis’ absence and is excited about this opportunity.
I think these playoffs are going to be super exciting!
Mazzulla emphasized using their week of rest wisely: "Between now and June 6th, we must take every experience we’ve had and use it to put ourselves in the best position to win."
