Draymond Green Criticizes Young Players Starting Podcasts Early

Draymond Green’s Podcast Journey

Back in May 2022, Draymond Green started his podcast, and it seemed like a perfect fit for him because he loves to speak his mind.

Success of “The Draymond Green Show”

When โ€œThe Draymond Green Showโ€ launched, it quickly became popular. Two years later, it’s clear that Draymond was the right person to host it. Every week, he shares his unique views on basketball and interviews some of the NBAโ€™s top players.

Views on Young Players Starting Podcasts

However, Draymond isn’t thrilled about young players starting their own shows. He believes they haven’t earned the right yet. He waited until he was a three-time NBA champion before starting his podcast and thinks that’s why it’s successful.

โ€œWhen I see guys doing it now, I have two thoughts,โ€ said Draymond. โ€œA, I like that youโ€™re doing that; I think thatโ€™s super cool. But B, make sure youโ€™re ready for it first.โ€

Invitations to Sports Media

Since sharing his opinions publicly, sports media often invites him to appear on TNTโ€™s NBA coverage. Amazingly, he started building his brand during Golden Stateโ€™s playoff run.

Despite many thinking it was a bad idea to start just weeks before the Warriors reached the NBA Finals in 2022, they won against the Boston Celtics in six games and got their fourth title ring.

Fans appreciate how honest he is about this topic.

Advice for Aspiring Podcasters

On a recent episode of the Club 520 Podcast, Draymond explained more: โ€œYouโ€™re not ready to do both basketball and a podcast if you havenโ€™t made it in basketball yet.โ€ He loves seeing everyone try new things but worries some are trying too much too soon.

Green doesnโ€™t think you need an NBA championship to start a podcast but believes you should prove yourself in the league first. After proving themselves professionally in basketball, young athletes can explore off-court activities like podcasts and social media dreams.

โ€œFor some of these guys in Year 3 still figuring things out with a podcast,โ€ said Green. โ€œI love that you’re doing it but nobody really wants to hear from you if you havenโ€™t done anything significant yet.โ€

Draymond is convinced people don’t care what young players say until they’ve built their careers: โ€œSome guys start too soon because they have nothing valuable to share yet.โ€
