NBA legend Dwyane Wade has a refreshingly down-to-earth approach to Christmas gifts with wife Gabrielle Union – and it’s not about splashing the cash.
“It’s about making it meaningful, something that speaks to who we are as a couple,” says Wade, who’s been married to the “Bring It On” star since 2014.
The power couple focuses on creating memories rather than maxing out credit cards during the holiday season.
“We try to focus on experiences,” Wade told E! News. “It’s about creating memories, not just unwrapping a box.”
At 42, the basketball icon has learned that the most precious gifts can’t always be wrapped. His wife Gabrielle, 52, shares the same philosophy about keeping their celebrations genuine and personal.
Family time has become even more precious for Wade since hanging up his basketball shoes in 2019. With six kids in their blended family, including 6-year-old Kaavia (his daughter with Gabrielle), the holidays are a chance to get everyone together under one roof.
“There’s just something special about having everyone together, especially after a long, crazy year,” Wade says. Even post-retirement, his schedule keeps him on the road, making these family moments extra special.
The Wade household is particularly buzzing during Thanksgiving, which holds a special place in the former Miami Heat star’s heart.
“Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday and each year we host at my house,” he shares. “I look forward to seeing all of my close family and friends in one room and the amazing conversations we have each year.”
Their family includes Wade’s children from previous relationships – Xavier, 11, Zaya, 17, and Zaire, 22 – plus his nephew Dahveon, 21, whom he gained custody of in 2011. It’s a full house that makes every holiday gathering uniquely special.
