Alright, hoop heads, buckle up! ESPN just dropped a bombshell that’s got the basketball world buzzing.
ESPN’s Shake-Up Continues
So, ESPN is at it again with their layoffs, and this time, it’s NBA guru Zach Lowe getting the boot. According to Andrew Marchand from The Athletic, Lowe’s departure is part of ESPN’s “fiscal year planning” (whatever that means). This follows the earlier exits of NFL analysts Robert Griffin III and Sam Ponder. Man, ESPN isn’t playing around with these cuts.

Both ESPN and Lowe are keeping mum on the situation, but word on the street is that his hefty seven-figure salary was the main reason for the cut. I mean, that’s a lot of cheddar .
Zach Lowe’s Journey
Lowe wasn’t just any writer; he was a staple at ESPN for 12 years. He kicked things off at Grantland before moving to the big leagues of ESPN. Besides writing, he was a familiar face on TV and the voice behind the popular “Lowe Post” podcast. Remember those “Ten things I like and donโt like” articles? Classic stuff.
Before ESPN, Lowe was grinding it out at Sports Illustrated starting in 2010. Fun fact: he was one of the few who made the jump to ESPN after Grantland shut down in 2015. Talk about loyalty!
The Woj Bomb Fallout
ESPN’s NBA coverage has been in flux ever since Adrian Wojnarowski, the king of breaking news, decided to retire. Woj is now the GM of St. Bonaventure’s men’s basketball program. Who saw that coming? With Woj gone and Lowe out, ESPN’s NBA coverage is looking like a team in rebuild mode.
What’s Next for Lowe?
Rumor has it, Bill Simmons might swoop in to save the day. Simmons and Lowe go way back to their Grantland days and often pop up on each other’s podcasts. Could we see Lowe at The Ringer soon? In my opinion, that would be a match made in basketball heaven.
Speaking of trades, did you catch that wild Curry rumor? Anyway, back to Lowe. His journey started at Dartmouth, then he dabbled in crime and court reporting before finding his true calling in sports journalism. From Stamford Advocate to The American Lawyer, and finally, the NBA beat โ what a ride!
So, what do you think? Will Lowe land at The Ringer, or does he have another trick up his sleeve? Drop your thoughts below!
