Free-Agent Sharpshooter to Join Warriors Workout

Free agent forward Davis Bertans has been invited to work out for the Warriors, according to Marc Stein.

Bertans became a free agent after the Hornets waived him in early July. He had a $16M salary for 2024/25, but only $5.25M was guaranteed before Charlotte let him go.

Recent Trades and Performance:

Midway through the 2023/24 season, Bertans was traded from the Thunder to the Hornets as part of the Gordon Hayward deal. On a struggling Charlotte team, he averaged 8.8 points per game with shooting splits of .394/.375/.889 over 28 games.

Career Highlights:

Once highly sought-after as a stretch four, Bertans signed an $80M contract over five years in 2020. He played one full and one partial season with Washington before being traded to Dallas. After coming off the bench for one-and-a-half seasons with the Mavericks, he moved to OKC in an offseason trade but saw limited action in just 15 games before being dealt to Charlotte.

Warriors Roster Situation:

The Warriors currently have 15 players on their roster; however, three of those spots are held by players with partially guaranteed or non-guaranteed contracts (as shown on https://www.hoopsrumors.com/2024/07/2024-25-nba-roster-counts.html).

Fans hope Bertans can find his form again if given another chance with a new team.

Bertans is known for his shooting prowess, boasting a career average of 39.6% from beyond the arc and scoring an average of 7.7 points in just 18 minutes per game across his career so far.

Sometimes we wonder if these trades affect players’ performance more than we think.

Letโ€™s see if this opportunity with Golden State will reignite his career!
