Golden State Predicted to Lose Former 6MOY in Free Agency

In less than 50 days, the NBA season will kick off again. It’s a chance for redemption for teams who fell short last season, and many are still tweaking their rosters before the action starts.

A notable free agent is drawing interest from several teams around the league. According to Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus, the Timberwolves, Warriors, and Knicks are all keeping tabs on Malcolm Brogdon. But Pincus believes Golden State is no longer in the running, predicting the former Sixth Man of the Year will end up signing with Minnesota instead.

NBA writer Eric Pincus shared his thoughts on Brogdon’s situation: “Malcolm Brogdon is an experienced veteran guard who can defend and shoot, but he’s struggled to stay healthy throughout much of his career.”

For Minnesota fans, landing Brogdon would be a significant win.

It’s been an unusually quiet offseason for the Warriors. They’ve been stuck waiting on Jonathan Kuminga to make a decision, which has limited their ability to sign other players.

The team desperately needs backcourt depth heading into next season.

While Golden State has shown interest in Brogdon, they’re facing competition from other teams who also want the 2022-23 Sixth Man of the Year.

Brogdon’s recent history includes a trade from Portland to Washington during the 2024 offseason. He only managed to play in 24 games for the Wizards last year, starting just 13 of them. Multiple injuries sidelined him for significant stretches.

Now he’s an unrestricted free agent still looking for a new home.

Pincus believes Minnesota will be that home. He points out that the Timberwolves need help at point guard behind veteran Mike Conley. If Brogdon can stay healthy, he’d be a perfect backup option.

But that’s a big “if.”

Staying on the court has been Brogdon’s biggest challenge. In three of his last four seasons, he’s played fewer than 40 games. The one exception was his Sixth Man of the Year campaign with Boston in 2022-23, when he appeared in 67 games (though he didn’t start any of them).

Whoever signs the 32-year-old is taking a gamble. There’s simply no guarantee the talented guard will be available throughout the season.

For a team like Minnesota looking to make a deep playoff run, adding Brogdon’s experience and skill could be worth the risk – even with his spotty availability record.
