Grant Williams’ time with the Dallas Mavericks was a mess.
After four solid years with the Boston Celtics, he joined Dallas but didn’t fit in well. By the trade deadline, he was sent to the Charlotte Hornets, and P.J. Washington went to Dallas as part of the deal.
Williams’ reputation had dropped, but in 29 games with Charlotte, he turned things around. He averaged 13.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game while shooting 60.5% from two-point range and 37.3% from three-point range .
Williams’ Role in Charlotte
An ESPN article by Bobby Marks highlighted Williams as a key player for the Hornets’ rebuild due to his playoff experience and modern skills. However, his contractโthree years at $41 millionโmakes him an attractive trade option too.
“Teams looking for a stretch 4 (hello, Philadelphia 76ers) might find him valuable,” Marks wrote.
Charles Lee sees Williams as a potential leader for his young team. With significant postseason experience and being only 25 years old, Williams has room to grow while also being a strong voice in the locker room.
Fans might think this is exciting news because it shows how quickly things can change in sports.
Playing for his hometown team is special for Williams. “Itโs a blessing to be home and be surrounded by friends, family and people you love,” he told Langston Wertz Jr. of the Charlotte Observer on May 17th.
If he keeps playing well like he did after joining Charlotte in February, other teams will definitely notice him again soon enough! His tough time with Dallas will just become old news if he leads well and performs on court for Charlotte now.
Charlotte took a chance on Williams when they got him at low value due to his bad fit in Dallas Now they’re seeing why it was worth it! Even though other teams might show interest during trade deadlines coming up soonโit would be wise if Williams stays put right where he’s finally shining again!
Do you think Grant should stay with Charlotte or explore new opportunities?
