Shai Silences Critics as Thunder Dominate Nuggets, Rematch Set for Monday
The Oklahoma City Thunder look to sweep their back-to-back series against the Denver Nuggets Monday night after Shai Gilgeous-Alexander put on a show in Sunday’s matchup between MVP frontrunners.
SGA dropped 40 points in a dominant 24-point win over Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets, making a strong statement in the MVP race.
The rematch tips off at 7:00 p.m. ET at Paycom Center in Oklahoma City.
Thunder fans have plenty to be excited about heading into Monday’s contest. Their team is rolling and currently holds a comfortable 9-point favorite status according to BetOnline oddsmakers.
Both teams have actually been impressive in back-to-back situations this season. OKC boasts a solid 9-4 record when playing without rest, while Denver has been nearly perfect at 11-1 in such scenarios.
The Nuggets might be shorthanded for the rematch, though. Aaron Gordon left Sunday’s game with a calf injury and is now listed as questionable. Denver is already missing DaRon Holmes III (Achilles) and Julian Strawther (knee).
Oklahoma City’s injury report remains unchanged with rookies Ajay Mitchell and Nikola Topic both sidelined.
The Western Conference playoff race is heating up. After Denver’s loss Sunday, just one game separates the 2nd through 5th seeds behind OKC in the standings.
This makes Monday’s game even more crucial for the Nuggets, who face a brutal upcoming schedule with games against the Warriors, Lakers and Timberwolves all on the horizon.
