The struggling Rockets look to turn things around as they host the Timberwolves Friday night at Toyota Center, where they’re 5-point favorites despite their recent cold streak.
Houston’s been having a tough time lately, going just 3-7 in their last 10 games. They’re shooting a chilly 43% during that stretch.
But they’re still pretty solid at home this season with a 17-9 record.
The Timberwolves come in looking much stronger, winning 6 of their last 10 and fresh off an impressive victory against the top-seeded Thunder before the All-Star break.
That win was even more remarkable considering who wasn’t on the court. The Wolves might be short-handed again Friday – Rudy Gobert (back), Mike Conley (finger), and Anthony Edwards (hip) are all questionable.
There’s some good news on the injury front though. Donte DiVincenzo has been cleared to start non-contact activities, while Julius Randle is back to full-contact scrimmaging after his groin injury last month.
The Rockets will be missing Fred VanVleet, who’s still dealing with an ankle problem.
Jalen Green has been the bright spot for Houston this year, leading the team with 21.2 points per game.
But history isn’t on the Rockets’ side in this matchup. The Wolves have absolutely owned them lately, winning 12 of their last 14 meetings. Even more telling – Minnesota’s won 6 of their last 7 games in Houston.
The numbers tell an interesting story too. Minnesota’s been putting up nearly 117 points per game over their last 10, while Houston’s offense has struggled to break 106.
ESPN’s stats folks are giving the Rockets about an 80% chance to win this one at home. But with the way these teams match up historically, this could be closer than the odds suggest.
The game tips off at 9:30 p.m. ET and you can catch it on ESPN, AT&T SportsNet Southwest, or Bally Sports North.
