Game Preview
The series will soon shift to San Francisco for Games 3 and 4, making this home game even more critical for Minnesota.
Curry’s absence looms large over this matchup. The Warriors’ star hurt his left hamstring during the second quarter of Tuesday’s opener after scoring 13 points in just 13 minutes.
This marks the first playoff game Curry has missed since 2018.
"Every year the playoffs are about adapting – whether it’s a game plan, an injury, a lineup, so we just have to adapt," said Warriors coach Steve Kerr. "We’ve done this before. We’re confident we can do this again."
The Warriors actually have an impressive 8-3 playoff record without Curry since drafting him in 2009. With him, they’re 104-51 in postseason play.
Golden State’s hopes now rest heavily on Jimmy Butler, who they picked up from Miami at the February trade deadline. Butler nearly had a triple-double in Game 1 with 20 points, 11 rebounds, and 8 assists.
He’ll need to step up even more tonight.
Minnesota looked rusty in the opener after a five-day break between series. They fell behind by as many as 23 points before making a late push.
Anthony Edwards had a particularly rough start, scoring just one point in the first half.
"I just look at [it like] every last one of us has got to play better individually, including myself," said Edwards, who finished 9-of-22 from the field with only one made three-pointer.
Julius Randle also wants to bounce back after grabbing only three rebounds despite scoring 18 points.
The Wolves have been tough at home lately, going 7-1 in their last eight games at Target Center. But Golden State has won four of their last five meetings with Minnesota.
ESPN’s Basketball Power Index gives the Wolves a 56.4% chance of evening the series tonight.
