Game Preview

Everything changed when Steph went down.

The Warriors stunned Minnesota by stealing Game 1 on the road, but Curry’s hamstring injury in that same game has completely flipped this series on its head. The Timberwolves have taken full advantage, winning three straight to build a commanding 3-1 lead.

Wednesday will mark Curry’s fourth consecutive game on the sidelines, leaving Golden State desperately searching for offensive answers.

"The series changed with Steph’s injury, so everybody’s shots are going to be more difficult," Warriors coach Steve Kerr admitted. "Steph’s a guy who breaks the defense down for us and creates that offensive flow. I think the end result is that shots are more difficult for every single guy."

Jimmy Butler has tried to carry the offensive load for Golden State, averaging 21 points on 44.1% shooting in the series.

But Minnesota’s defense clamped down on him in Game 4, holding Butler to just 14 points.

"Ideally we could put more shooting around him to open up the floor a little bit," Kerr explained. "But with Steph out, we’re not going to be able to do as much of that. With that said, we’ll look at the tape and see where we can find some openings for him, and I’ll know he’ll be aggressive for Game 5."

The Timberwolves smell blood in the water but aren’t taking anything for granted.

"You can’t get comfortable," warned Minnesota’s Anthony Edwards. "You can’t get comfortable in the NBA, especially not in the playoffs."

The numbers favor Minnesota heading into this potential series-clincher. ESPN’s Basketball Power Index gives the Timberwolves a 65.4% chance of finishing off Golden State tonight.

Golden State has been surprisingly good on the road lately, going 9-3 in their past 12 away games.

But Minnesota has been nearly unbeatable at Target Center, winning 8 of their last 9 home games.

Can the Warriors find a way to extend the series without their superstar? Or will the Wolves punch their ticket to the Western Conference Finals in front of their home crowd?
