Jalen Brunson chose to stay with the New York Knicks, even though he could have earned more money elsewhere.
During his introduction as the Knicks’ captain, Brunson addressed the critics of his decision. He made it clear that their opinions didn’t bother him because he feels at home in New York.

Brunson’s Perspective:
Brunson explained that by taking less money, he gave the team more flexibility to improve. “I just knew that if I did this, it would give us a lot of flexibility and would put us in position to win,” he said. He understands some people think it’s not smart from an individual standpoint but insists he’s comfortable and focused on building something great with the team.
To him, what matters most is how the Knicks and their fans feel about his choice. Fans might think it’s a selfless move for the team’s benefit.
By signing now, Brunson essentially sacrificed $113M in potential earnings. The Knicks will benefit from extra room to maneuver around the luxury tax, which helps with roster depth.
