James Wiseman is joining the Indiana Pacers.
The former second overall pick has had a tough time in the NBA since 2020. He struggled with the Golden State Warriors for two and a half years, and then faced more challenges with the Detroit Pistons.
Now, with the Pacers, Wiseman has a chance to shine as a high-energy player. Rick Carlisle, one of the top NBA coaches, has made the Pacers one of the most exciting young teams. They play fast-paced games and shoot many threes .
Wiseman’s job will be to grab rebounds and run up and down the court. With his athleticism and height (7 feet), he can create vertical spacing. Tyrese Haliburton, possibly the best passer in the league, will find Wiseman for easy lobs during fast breaks or when rolling to the rim in half-court plays.
Developing Defensive Skills:
Carlisle’s main task will be improving Wiseman’s defense. He has all it takes to be a top rim protector and helper on defense. If Carlisle can enhance his timing and defensive smarts, Wiseman could become an anchor for their second unit. Plus, he could step in when Myles Turner needs rest or is injured.
Indiana’s style suits young and explosive players like Wiseman perfectly. For once, he’s on a team that matches his skills both offensively and defensively. At 23 years old, he still has time to turn things around and prove himself as a valuable big man in the league.
