Jaylen Brown’s summer has been a whirlwind of emotions, from winning an NBA championship and Finals MVP with the Celtics to being left out of Team USA’s Olympic squad that won gold in France.
Overlooked for Team USA
Jaylen hoped to join the U.S. Men’s Basketball team when Kawhi Leonard got injured in July. Instead, they picked his teammate Derrick White over him. Jaylen shared on Twitter that he didn’t take it personally but hinted that Nike might have influenced the decision. Given his accolades, it was surprising he wasn’t chosen.

Motivation and Preparation for Next Season
Despite the snub, Jaylen is using this as motivation. He liked a comment on Instagram saying “JB villain year loading…” and warned other teams by saying, “I want blood.” He’s ready to defend their title next season after enjoying his summer celebrations.
โLast year is over,โ JB said. โWe celebrated; we had a good time… But now it’s back to work.โ His stats were impressive last season: 23 points, 3.6 assists, and 5.5 rebounds per game with a field goal percentage of nearly 50%.
Fans think this will fuel him even more!
Nike Controversy
Thereโs speculation Nike played a role in him not being chosen for Team USA since they sponsor the team and Jaylen hasnโt signed a new shoe deal since leaving Adidas three years ago.
โI called Derrick right away,โ Jaylen said about clearing things up with his teammate Derrick White after he was chosen instead of him for Team USA. โMe and D-White are good.โ

โI do for sure,โ he responded when asked if he thought Nike influenced the decision against him joining Team USA.
