Jayson Tatum has kicked off the season with a bang, making sure everyone in the league knows he’s here to dominate. In Boston’s latest road win against Washington, Tatum was unstoppable, racking up 25 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists. And get thisโhe didn’t even need to play in the fourth quarter! That’s right, for the second game in a row, he was chilling on the bench during crunch time. The opener against the Knicks? He dropped 37 points and dished out ten assists. I think Tatum’s got his eyes set on that MVP trophy, especially after snagging his first championship ring in June.
Coach Mazzulla’s Bold Take
Boston’s head coach, Joe Mazzulla, isn’t a fan of the term “title defense.” He thinks it’s too passive. On the Locked On Celtics podcast, he said, “The phrase โdefending a titleโ is a very passive-aggressive term. If you look at the animal kingdom, some of the strongest animals donโt defend; theyโre the most aggressive, they attack the most.โ Well, the Celtics are definitely on the attack, starting their season strong with wins over the Knicks and Wizards. The Knicks spent all summer trying to gear up to beat Boston, but it looks like the Celtics are still a step ahead.

With almost the entire championship squad back and a young core led by Tatum and Jaylen Brown, Boston’s future is looking brighter than ever. Tatum is already averaging a cool 31 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists per game, shooting an insane 50% from three and 61% from the field.
