Before Cameroonโ€™s 52nd National Unity Day, the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education announced that Joel Embiid would be awarded the Commander of the Order of Valor medal. The ceremony was held in honor of his achievements, including winning gold at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris with Team USA.

โ€œThe Minister of Sports and Physical Education has the honor to inform the public that he will preside over the award ceremony of the Commander of the Order of Valor medal, exceptionally awarded by President Paul Biya, as part of the 52nd National Unity Day, to Mr. Joel Hans Embiid,โ€ stated an official release.

On Wednesday, surrounded by fans in Central Africa, Embiid met President Paul Biya who presented him with this prestigious medal. Unlike his experience at the Paris Olympics where he faced some boos, this event was filled with cheers.

A Momentous Occasion

The Medal is given to Cameroonians who have made exceptional contributions in various fields such as arts or science. Interestingly, before deciding to play for Team USA at Paris Olympics, Embiid considered representing Cameroon but chose otherwise to honor his son born in America. โ€œI want my boy to know I played my first Olympics for him,โ€ he shared.

Fans feel proud seeing their favorite players being recognized globally .

The Significance of The Order

Established in 1957, this order recognizes outstanding service to Cameroon across seven classes: Collar, Grand Cordon, Grand Cross, Grand Officer, Commander (which Embiid received), Officer and Knight.

Embiid expressed gratitude towards President Biya and everyone involved during his acceptance speech after winning gold against France at Paris Olympics final round last Saturday โ€“ marking both milestones within days apart!

Having become a U.S citizen back in September ’22 due partly because wife Anne De Paula & young son influenced decision-making process; โ€œMy son is American,” said Embiid then adding “I felt like living here itself feels blessed.โ€

Future Prospects

Despite these accomplishments hinting potential shift ahead when asked about future plans during recent interview conducted via Bleacher Report – suggesting possible representation switch come Los Angelesโ€™28 Games stating: โ€œIt might not be with Team USA; it might be with Cameroon.โ€
