Joel Embiid Signs Three-Year Max Extension with 76ers

Superstar center Joel Embiid has signed a three-year, max-salary extension with the Sixers.

Contract Details:

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the new contract begins in 2026-27 and includes a player option for the final year. The team confirmed this news in an official announcement.

Embiid’s Commitment to Philadelphia:

“Philadelphia is home,” Embiid shared on Instagram. “I want to be here for the rest of my career. I love this community and everything youโ€™ve given me and my family. There is a lot more work to do. You guys deserve a championship and I think weโ€™re just getting started!”

Team owner Josh Harris also expressed his excitement: “Joel has cemented himself as one of the greatest Sixers of all time and is well on his way to being one of the best players to ever play the game. Weโ€™re ecstatic that this extension keeps him and his family in Philadelphia for years to come.”

Financial Breakdown:

Based on current salary cap projections, Embiidโ€™s three-year extension will be worth about $192.9M. Heโ€™ll earn approximately $59.5M in 2026-27, $64.3M in 2027-28, with a $69.1M player option for 2028-29.

Adding this new deal to his existing two-year contract worth $106.6M, Embiid is set to make nearly $300M over five seasons.

Career Highlights:

Despite early foot issues costing him two full seasons, Embiid has become one of the NBAโ€™s most dominant players, earning All-Star selections seven times and All-NBA spots five times over recent years.

He averages 27.9 points, 11.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.7 blocks per game across his career and won MVP in 2023 after finishing top two in MVP votes from 2021-23.

Fans truly believe he deserves every bit of success he’s achieved!

Injury setbacks limited him to only 39 games last season despite averaging a career-high 34.7 points per game when healthy.

The Big Earners Club:

With this new deal, Embiid joins LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Paul George (his teammate), and Kevin Durant as members of the NBAโ€™s exclusive $500M+ earnings club according to Bobby Marks from ESPN (via Twitter).
