Los Angeles Clippers forward Kawhi Leonard is set to be ready for training camp on October 1st as he recovers from a knee injury.
Updates on Kawhi’s Recovery
The last time we saw Leonard playing was in July at Team USAโs camp in Las Vegas. He was replaced by Derrick White. “I speak to him all the time,” said Tyronn Lue, the Clippers’ head coach, according to ESPNโs Ohm Youngmisuk. “Heโll be ready for [Clippers] training camp. Heโs feeling good and I know heโll be ready.”
Leonard, who is 33 years old, had knee inflammation at the end of the 2023-24 season. Initially, he was expected to join Team USA for the Paris Olympics.

However, his knee issues forced him out of the Olympics. These problems have been a recurring theme since he joined the Clippers in 2019. He missed an entire season (2021-22) because of a torn ACL and has only played more than 60 games once with Los Angeles.
Kawhi’s Performance Last Season
Last season, Leonard played in 68 games and started all of them. He averaged impressive stats: 23.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, and shot a career-best 52.5% from the floor.
In one standout game against Utah Jazz on December 8th, he scored a season-high of 41 points along with five rebounds and five assists.
Despite his efforts, the Clippers struggled without him last season but managed some wins in his absence during playoffs against Dallas Mavericks.
Fans are hopeful that this year will be different!
Leonard’s Injury History
According to Basketball-Reference database records, Leonard has missed a whopping total of 256 regular-season games over seven years due to various injuries including missing an entire campaign (2021-22). His participation last year marked his highest since playing with San Antonio Spurs back in 2016-17.
Contract Details
In January this year, Leonard signed a three-year contract extension worth $153 million with no player option included but guarantees $52 million for its first year alone! This new deal follows another four-year agreement made back August ’21 valued at $176 million overall where earned around $45M last term alone!
