Kevin Durant Joins NBA 29K Points Club as Eighth Player

Kevin Durant is climbing higher on the NBA’s all-time scoring list.

Durant’s Milestone Achievement

In a recent game where the Suns beat the Mavericks 114-102, Kevin Durant became just the eighth player ever to score 29,000 career points. He joins an elite group with LeBron James, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Dirk Nowitzki, and Wilt Chamberlain. Among these legends, only LeBron is still playing. This gives Durant a chance to move up even more before he retires.

Chasing Legends

Last season was impressive for Durant as he passed several greats like Hakeem Olajuwon and Shaquille O’Neal to reach eighth place in scoring. Now fans wonder if he can catch Chamberlain or Nowitzki soon. With 29,010 points now, he needs 2,409 more to pass Chamberlain and just 141 to overtake Nowitzki. But it seems tough; last year he scored 2,032 points across 75 games at an average of 27.1 per game. Keeping that pace might not be enough this season for “The Big Dipper,” but surpassing them both by the 2025-26 season looks promising if he stays healthy.

We think it’s amazing how Durant keeps pushing boundaries despite his age.

Gratitude and Praise

After hitting this milestone of joining the “29K club,” Durant humbly thanked his teammates and supporters who have been there since his early days. “I’ve got to give credit to the people who have helped me since I was a kid,” said Durant via ESPN. His coach Mike Budenholzer praised him too: “Itโ€™s a tribute to a generational talent.” Budenholzer acknowledged how well Durant scores against tough defenses throughout his career.

Durant probably won’t catch LeBron at number one on this list but could finish in the top three because he’s showing no signs of slowing down at age 36! He has even talked about playing into his forties; if soโ€”and averaging around 25 points per gameโ€”he could join an exclusive club with over 37k points someday!
