Kevin Durant Learns About His Trade to Houston Live on Stage
Kevin Durant found out he was being traded to the Houston Rockets while sitting on stage during an interview at Fanatics Fest in New York City.
Talk about awkward timing.
The four-time scoring champion looked genuinely surprised when the news broke, responding with cautious skepticism at first.
“We’re gonna see man,” Durant said. “We’re gonna see.”
But moments later, after confirming the deal was official, KD’s tone shifted. “Crazy, crazy last couple weeks,” he told interviewer Kay Adams. “But I’m glad it’s over with.”
The blockbuster trade sends the 37-year-old superstar from Phoenix to Houston in exchange for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, next year’s No. 10 draft pick, and five second-round picks.
Durant revealed that the Suns had actually consulted him about the move.
“They wanted me to go. … They got what they wanted, and I got what I wanted,” he explained. “We can move on and good luck to them going forward. Always remember my time there, but we’re going on to something else.”
Former teammate Kendrick Perkins couldn’t contain his excitement about what this means for the Rockets.
“The Houston Rockets just got Kevin Durant. You know his name – Kevin Durant. The greatest scorer, in my eyes, to ever touch the damn basketball. Ever,” Perkins gushed.
He didn’t stop there.
“Yeah, overall, whoever you want to talk about – Bron, Kareem – he’s the greatest scorer to ever touch the damn basketball.”
Perkins believes this single move transforms Houston into a legitimate championship threat.
“The Rockets are going for it all,” he declared on air. “The Rockets have just become legit title contenders. Yeah, I said it. They just became legit title contenders. Yes, they have.”
With Durant joining the young Rockets roster, the Western Conference just got even more interesting.
