The new NBA season is almost here, and teams are wrapping up their training camps and getting ready for preseason games.
Knicks Without Hartenstein:
The New York Knicks had a strong playoff run last season. One big question for them is how much they’ll miss Isaiah Hartenstein. When he was on the court, the team performed significantly better, being +10.4 points ahead in non-garbage-time possessions. Sadly, Hartenstein has moved to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
New York hasn’t found a replacement yet, which leaves a gap on their bench. There have been rumors about trades for centers like Kevon Looney, but nothing has happened so far. With Mitchell Robinson’s injury history, the Knicks need to be careful with their center rotation early in the season. Jericho Sims and Precious Achiuwa will need to step up as backup centers.
Julius Randle’s Future:
Another big question is whether Julius Randle will stay with the Knicks all season. He has two years left on his contract but can opt out after next year. The Knicks might want to extend his contract but must consider their financial situation since Jalen Brunson made sacrifices to give them some cap flexibility.
Randle averaged 24 points, 9.2 rebounds, and five assists last season while shooting 47.2% from the field and 31.1% from three-point range. Trading him could be tempting for the front office because of his value on Thibodeau’s roster; however, New York performs better with him playing.
Fans think it would be risky if they lose him without any return at seasonโs end.
Mikal Bridges’ Role:
Mikal Bridges joining the team is seen as a crucial addition to complete their lineup puzzle His scoring ability at all levels and strong defense make Thibodeauโs starting five competitive against top teams like Boston Celtics.
Last season with Brooklyn Nets, Bridges averaged 19.6 points per game along with 4.5 rebounds and 3.6 assists while shooting well from both field (43%) and three-point range (37%). In New York though he might not get as many offensive opportunities initially until he adjusts into possibly secondary or tertiary roles within offense hierarchy.
If Bridges can hit open shots consistently create opportunities himself defensively excel then he could help propel another deep postseason run provided everyone stays healthy!
