Klay Thompson is set to face the Warriors this season, and itโs going to be an emotional night. The new Mavericks player has already taken a playful jab at his old team.
On Instagram, Thompson posted a scene from the 2004 movie “You Got Served,” where a dancer leaves his crew for a rival group. In this clip, Thompson plays “Sonny,” the dancer who switches sides. Stephen Curry and Draymond Green are part of his old crew, while Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic join him in the new Mavericks lineup.
Thompson captioned the video with “Sonny switched up quick!” to humorously acknowledge his change of teams .
Anticipation for Warriors-Mavericks Matchups
Fans might think this move adds extra spice to their upcoming games. A tweet even speculated if Thompson was hinting at next season’s matchups between the Warriors and Mavericks:

Despite some calling their split bitter, both sides have shown mutual respect recently. Joe Lacob shared texts exchanged with Thompson after he decided to leave. On social media, Thompson called his time with Golden State “the best times of my life.”
The Warriors plan to honor him with a tribute video when he returns to Chase Center. Theyโve also retired his No. 11 jersey in recognition of his contributions.
Itโs hard to imagine any Warriors fan booing him when he plays against them as a Maverick. This situation is different from LeBron’s return to Cleveland in 2010 or Durant’s return to Oklahoma City in 2016, which were met with boos due to how they left those teams.
What do you think about Klay facing off against his old team?
