Knicks Roster Spot: Three Veterans Competing

The New York Knicks still have one roster spot available for the 2024-25 season.

New Signings and Contracts:

On Sunday, the Knicks signed Marcus Morris Sr. to an Exhibit 9 contract. This deal is fully non-guaranteed unless he makes the team by opening night on October 22nd. Morris will compete with Landry Shamet and Chuma Okeke, who also have non-guaranteed contracts.

Training Camp Competition:

The three players will fight for the final spot during training camp starting October 1st. If none of them make it, the Knicks might leave the spot open to save money and keep flexibility for trades later in the season.

Morris’ Chances:

Morris seems to have a good shot at making the team. He played well for the Knicks in 2019-20, averaging a career-high 19.6 points before being traded to the Clippers. Now he’s back with a team aiming for a championship.

Morris could help strengthen a frontcourt that has struggled with injuries and inexperience. Mitchell Robinson and Julius Randle often get hurt, while Precious Achiuwa and Jericho Sims are still unproven, especially in playoffs. The departure of Isaiah Hartenstein left another gap that wasn’t filled.

Other Contenders:

Shamet might be valuable because he’s a good three-point shooter (.384 career). The Knicks need more consistent shooting off their bench, which currently relies heavily on Donte DiVincenzo.

Okeke has shown potential as a perimeter defender but struggles with shooting (.383 FG%). He could still impress coach Tom Thibodeau during training camp and earn his place on the team.

Fans hope these new additions can bring fresh energy to our beloved Knicks!

The final roster could be set before their preseason game against the Hornets on October 6th.
