Knicks Sign Landry Shamet to 1-Year Contract

Landry Shamet is coming back to the Knicks on a one-year deal, his agent George S. Langberg told ESPN’s Shams Charania on Thursday.

The 28-year-old guard chose to stick with New York for what will be his eighth NBA season, despite having “other options” on the table.

Why stay with the Knicks? According to SNY’s Ian Begley, Shamet “wanted to return to a locker room he liked” and help the team “compete for a title.”

Shamet was on fire to close out last season. Over New York’s final ten regular-season games, he averaged 12.2 points while shooting a blistering 49% from deep.

He knocked down 3.3 three-pointers per game during that stretch while playing just 22.6 minutes. That kind of efficiency from beyond the arc is pretty rare.

The Missouri native’s journey to New York wasn’t exactly straightforward.

Originally drafted 26th overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in 2018 after playing college ball at Wichita State, Shamet has bounced around the league quite a bit. He’s suited up for the Sixers, Clippers, Nets, Suns, and Wizards before landing with the Knicks.

His first stint with New York actually started rough. Shamet was initially waived after suffering a shoulder injury in the 2024 preseason, but the team brought him back in December once he recovered.

Last season, he appeared in 50 games off the bench, averaging 5.7 points on career-best shooting percentages – 46.1% from the field and a solid 39.7% from three-point range.

His best game? A 29-point explosion against Brooklyn in the regular-season finale on April 13.

But Shamet’s spot in the rotation isn’t guaranteed. The Knicks also signed guard Garrison Mathews to a training camp deal, and according to the New York Post’s Stefan Bondy, Shamet is “expected to compete for a roster spot.”

Since Shamet’s contract is non-guaranteed, it’s still unclear if he’ll have a regular role under new head coach Mike Brown when the season tips off.

When the signing becomes official, Shamet will be the 13th player under contract with the Knicks. The team still has all three of its two-way spots open, with Kevin McCullar Jr. remaining a two-way restricted free agent.
