Christian Wood’s Knee Woes: A Lakers Saga
Alright, Lakers Nation, buckle up! We’ve got a rollercoaster of an update on Christian Wood, our big man in the middle.
Wood’s Setback: Surgery and Social Media
So, Christian Wood just had surgery on his left knee. Yep, another one. The Lakers announced it on Monday, saying he’d be out for about eight weeks. Wood himself took to social media to share his frustration and determination. He wrote, “Damnโฆ I was just feeling like my old self again and was in peak shape. Minor setback for a Major comeback, and to my fans, donโt stop believing in me.”

A Look Back: Wood’s First Season with the Lakers
Christian Wood, whoโs turning 29 on September 27, missed the last two months of last season due toโyou guessed itโhis left knee. This guy’s been through the wringer. He had his first arthroscopic procedure back in March. In his debut season with the Lakers, Wood played in 50 games, starting just once. He averaged 6.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.0 assist per game. Not too shabby, but not exactly All-Star numbers either. He last suited up on February 14 against the Jazz.
Coach Ham’s High Praise
Lakers coach Darvin Ham had some kind words for Wood earlier this year. “Heโs making quick decisions, keeping it simple and doing the little things,” Ham said. “Just him rebounding, setting good screens, rolling, shooting when heโs open and not hesitating. They close out on him, heโs driving downhill. Heโs not trying to play around with the ball anymore.” Sounds like Wood was really getting into his groove before the knee issues flared up again.
Upcoming Games and Wood’s Return
The Lakers have a packed schedule coming up. They’ll kick off training camp on October 1 and face the Timberwolves in preseason action on October 4 in Palm Springs. The regular season opener is also against the Timberwolves on October 22. By my count, that’s six weeks from now. The Lakers will play six regular-season games before November 4, which is exactly eight weeks from Monday. Mark those calendars, folks! Other teams theyโll face include the Suns, Kings, Cavs, and Raptors.
I think Wood’s return could be a game-changer for the Lakers. If he can get back to his old self, watch out! But, man, those knee issues are worrisome.
So, Lakers fans, what do you think? Will Wood bounce back stronger than ever, or are we in for another tough season? Letโs hear your thoughts!
