Honoring “The Logo” in Style
So, the Lakers just dropped some big news. They’re gonna rock a special band with Jerry West’s No. 44 on their jerseys for the entire 2024-25 season. This is their way of honoring West, who passed away at 86 this June. The guy was a Lakers lifer, playing all 14 years of his Hall of Fame career in LA, then coaching and even crushing it as an executive.

Mr. Clutch: A Legacy Like No Other
Nicknamed “The Logo” and “Mr. Clutch,” West was a beast on the court. He was the third player ever to hit 25,000 points and made the All-Star team every single year of his career. And let’s not forget, he dragged the Lakers to the NBA Finals nine times, snagging a championship in ’71-72. The guy was relentless!
In his 932 regular-season games, he averaged 27 points, 5.8 boards, 6.7 dimes, and 2.6 steals. That’s insane, right? Plus, he played nearly 40 minutes a game. I think it’s safe to say, West was a workhorse.

Mark your calendars, folks! The Lakers are kicking off the season by honoring West on opening night against the Timberwolves on Oct. 22. They’re even giving away West No. 44 jerseys to the fans. Now, that’s how you start a season!

More Than Just a Player
West wasn’t just a baller; he was a mastermind. He built the “Showtime” Lakers of the ’80s and the Kobe-Shaq dynasty that won three straight titles. In April, he became the first person ever to be inducted into the Hall of Fame three times: as a player, an executive, and a contributor. Talk about GOAT status.
He also worked his magic as a GM for the Lakers and the Grizzlies, and as a consultant for the Warriors and Clippers. The dude had his fingerprints all over the league.
