LeBron James has decided he won’t be in Los Angeles for the 2028 Olympics.
In an interview with Craig Melvin on NBC’s “Today,” LeBron confirmed he will play for Team USA at the Paris Olympics this summer. But when asked about the 2028 Games, he made it clear that he won’t be around.
“No, I won’t be there,” said LeBron. “I’m getting the hell out of that city when the Olympics come to Los Angeles. Alright, I’ll live there all year. I will not be in Los Angeles in 2028. I’m getting out of there.”
At 39, LeBron is already making history as the oldest U.S. men’s basketball Olympian when he plays in Paris. He has three Olympic medals: two golds from 2008 and 2012 and a bronze from 2004. Many expect him to win another medal this year.
Fans might think it’s a smart move given his age and career length.
Future Plans:
By 2028, LeBron will be 43 years old—still younger than Tom Brady was at retirement—but likely done with basketball by then. One of his sons even hinted that LeBron might retire sooner than expected (https://larrybrownsports.com/basketball/bryce-james-hint-lebron-retire/635399).
