Has LeBron James given up on winning the 2024-25 NBA title with the Lakers?
As he steps into his 22nd season, tying Vince Carter for the most seasons played in NBA history, LeBron has shared that his focus has shifted and winning championships isn’t everything anymore.
“What drives me is my love for the game,” James told Rolling Stone. “I’ve been blessed to achieve a lot in my career, but there’s always room for growth, both on and off the court. I’m motivated by the opportunity to still make an impact, to lead, and to keep winning at the highest level. It’s not just about championships, it’s about inspiring the next generation and continuing to push myself. I still have a lot to give, and that’s what keeps me going.”
Changing Priorities:
LeBron’s comments are surprising because he’s spent over a decade chasing championships relentlessly. Since joining the Heat in 2011 with “The Decision,” heโs always said that any season without a championship is a failure. This mindset was similar to Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant who were also obsessed with winning.
New Approach:
In his quest for titles, LeBron has recruited players, helped scouts during drafts, and worked closely with front office executives on building rosters. But lately, it seems like he’s stepped back from these roles just to enjoy playing basketball.
Fans think this new approach might be refreshing.
Milestones Ahead:
Even though the Lakers have longshot odds (+4000) of winning this season’s title, LeBron has several personal milestones he could reach. He could hit 50,000 points (including playoffs) and become the all-time minutes leader.
LeBron will also be making history as he’ll be both a teenager and a 40-year-old player in NBA games! Plus, he might share the court with his son Bronny James who is now part of the Lakers team .
The Lakers kick off their 2024-25 season against the Timberwolves on October 23rd.
