Mavericks Daniel Gafford Out 2 Weeks With Knee Sprain

The Dallas Mavericks‘ injury woes just got worse, as center Daniel Gafford is now expected to miss at least two weeks with a sprained knee.

Gafford went down during the team’s heartbreaking one-point loss to the Sacramento Kings, playing just 10 minutes before heading to the locker room.

The timing couldn’t be worse for Dallas. They’re already dealing with what feels like a revolving door to the training room, especially in their frontcourt.

The biggest blow? Their newly acquired star Anthony Davis is out with an adductor strain – an injury he picked up in his very first game as a Maverick. He’s expected to be sidelined for about a month.

It’s been a rough stretch for Mavs fans. They’re still trying to process the shocking trade that sent Luka Doncic to the Lakers in exchange for Davis. The move was so controversial it led to fans being kicked out of the American Airlines Center during protests.

Before his injury, Gafford had been having an up-and-down February. But he showed flashes of brilliance, including a monster performance against Boston where he grabbed 15 rebounds and dished out 5 assists in a huge upset win.

The injury list keeps growing:

* Dereck Lively II is out for at least two months with a right ankle fracture
* Dwight Powell is sidelined
* Dante Exum is unavailable
* PJ Washington and Caleb Martin are both missing time

With no healthy centers left on the roster, Dallas might have to turn to two-way player Kyler Kelley to man the middle.

The Mavericks will try to weather this storm as they continue their five-game homestand. Up next? A suddenly hot Golden State Warriors team looking for their first three-game winning streak since last November.

The team says they’ll re-evaluate Gafford in two weeks, but given their current luck with injuries, fans are holding their breath for good news.
