Mavs Brandon Williams Arrested at DFW Airport for Marijuana Possession

Mavericks Guard Brandon Williams Arrested for Marijuana Possession at DFW Airport

The Dallas Mavericks dropped to 1-3 on the season after falling to the Oklahoma City Thunder 101-94 on Monday night. Despite trailing by 18 points at the end of the third quarter, the Mavs couldn’t mount a comeback.

But that’s not the biggest story coming out of Dallas this week.

Mavs backup point guard Brandon Williams was arrested Saturday night at Dallas/Fort Worth Airport after TSA agents discovered marijuana in his luggage, according to beat reporter Ron Harrod Jr.

Police were called to Terminal C around 10:02 p.m. after security found what they described as a “black container containing a green leafy substance” in Williams’ suitcase.

When questioned, Williams admitted the suitcase was his but claimed his manager had packed his bag for him.

Officers tested the substance, which came back positive for THC. Williams was then arrested for “knowingly possessing marijuana.” The amount was reportedly about 1.3 ounces.

Neither the Mavericks organization nor Williams’ representatives have issued a statement about the incident.

The 25-year-old guard had been away from the team for what was described as “personal matters” at the time of his arrest. This explains his presence at the airport Saturday evening.

Williams was listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Raptors following the arrest. It’s still unclear if he’ll be available for Wednesday’s matchup with the Pacers.

The timing couldn’t be worse for the struggling Mavericks. With Kyrie Irving already sidelined to start the season, the team was counting on Williams to provide some depth off the bench.

So far this season, Williams has appeared in just two of the Mavs’ four games, logging a total of 19 minutes without scoring a single point.

The question now is whether these off-court issues will impact Williams’ already limited playing time going forward.
