Mavs Klay Thompson Will Consider Big3 After Retirement

Klay Thompson Eyes Big3 Future After NBA Career

Klay Thompson isn’t ready to hang up his sneakers when his NBA days are done. The Dallas Mavericks sharpshooter recently told Michael Cooper on the Showtime podcast that he’d “absolutely” consider joining the Big3 league after his NBA career ends.

“Especially with that 4-point ball, that gets me excited,” Thompson said with enthusiasm.

The 35-year-old is heading into his 13th NBA season and second with Dallas after leaving Golden State last year.

Thompson even suggested the 3-on-3 league should expand internationally, pointing out how popular the format is in Europe and Asia.

“I want the Big3 to take the game international,” he told Cooper, who coaches Miami 305 in the league.

It’s been a challenging few years for Thompson. Injuries hit him hard, and he hasn’t quite been the same player since.

Last season, he averaged just 14 points per game – his lowest output since his rookie year. Though he started 72 games for the Mavs, rumors suggest he might come off the bench next season with rookie sensation Cooper Flagg joining the team.

Thompson still has two years left on his Mavericks contract, so Big3 fans will need to be patient.

He also revealed some tough news for Dallas fans – teammate Kyrie Irving is recovering from an ACL tear and could miss “the first three to five months of the season.”

The Big3, founded in 2017 by Ice Cube and Jeff Kwatinetz, features 12 teams stocked with former NBA players and international talent. For a shooter of Thompson’s caliber, that 4-point shot might be too tempting to resist when his NBA journey eventually ends.
