NBA Ends Investigation into Josh Giddey

This year has been an emotional rollercoaster for Josh Giddey due to allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a minor, leading to investigations by both the police and the NBA.

Investigation Findings:

After months of gathering information, the league decided to close their investigation. The Newport Beach Police Department had earlier announced that Giddey would not face charges. “After a thorough and exhaustive examination, we have completed our investigation into information that was circulating on social media involving Josh Giddey,” read the PD’s statement. They couldn’t find any criminal activity linked to him.

The NBA also concluded their investigation with similar findings. Allegations emerged in November when photos and a video of Giddey with a girl who was allegedly underage surfaced online.

NBA’s Stance:

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver explained why they waited for concrete evidence before taking action. “Where there is a criminal investigation, we take a back seat,” he said. He emphasized that ongoing criminal investigations affect how they interact with players and the Player’s Association.

I think it’s important to wait for all facts before making judgments.

Silver added, “So you have an allegation, you have an ongoing criminal investigation… I’m not going to say never ever, but this is the path we have consistently followed … that’s where things currently stand.”

Giddey’s Tough Season:

Giddey admitted this NBA season has been his biggest challenge yet. A viral video showed him emotional when discussing his struggles after being eliminated by the Mavericks. “This was probably the biggest challenge I’ve ever gone through,” he said, noting how mental health often gets overlooked in sports.

Facing boos from rival crowds and even some Oklahoma City fans affected his confidence at times. “You have bad games; you start doubting yourself,” he shared. But staying connected with his team helped him cope best during tough times.

“Coming in every day and being part of the team lifts your spirits,” Josh concluded gratefully mentioning those around him who supported him through difficult stretches this year
