Nikola Jokić just made NBA history with a simple pass, and he didn’t even know it was coming.
The Denver Nuggets superstar became the fastest player ever to hit 15,000 points, 7,500 rebounds, and 5,000 assists – doing it in just 709 games. That’s nearly 100 games quicker than Larry Bird’s previous record of 799.
And he’s not slowing down. Jokić is having his best season yet, putting up mind-boggling numbers: 31.2 points, 13.2 rebounds, and 9.8 assists per game.
The milestone came during Tuesday’s 118-99 win over the Mavericks, where he casually added another triple-double to his collection – his 146th overall.
He’s already racked up 16 triple-doubles this season, leading the league by a wide margin.
But what’s really turning heads in Denver is the unexpected chemistry between Jokić and Russell Westbrook. They’re making history together too.
“We talk a lot during games, but sometimes we don’t even need to,” Westbrook explained last week. “We just be thinking the same thing. It’s a great dynamic.”
Westbrook, himself a former MVP, doesn’t hold back when talking about his teammate: “He’s the best player in the world.”
The duo proved it last week against Brooklyn, becoming the first teammates ever to each drop 25-point triple-doubles in the same regular-season game. Jokić went off for 35 points, 15 assists, and 12 rebounds, while Westbrook added 25 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists.
It was their second time this season both getting triple-doubles in the same game – another NBA first.
Nuggets coach Michael Malone couldn’t help but crack a joke after watching his stars make history: “You’re watching the History Channel, folks. You’re watching history.”
For a player who started his NBA career sleeping through his own draft night, Jokić sure is keeping everyone wide awake now.
