Nikola Jokic had an incredible weekend, scoring a total of 104 points, grabbing 30 rebounds, and dishing out 16 assists in just two games.
Record-Breaking Performances:
Jokic’s performance included a career-high of 56 points against the Wizards. He joined the ranks of Wilt Chamberlain and Elgin Baylor as one of only three players to average at least 45 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists in consecutive games. This achievement also marked him as the first player ever to reach totals of 104 points, 30 rebounds, and 16 assists over two days.

Shooting Concerns:
Despite these amazing stats, there is some worry about Jokic’s high number of shot attempts. In December alone, he’s been taking an average of over 28 shots per game. For his career so far this season, he’s attempting a record-high number of shots for himself.
Fans sometimes feel like Jokic is doing too much on his own.

Changes Over Time:
Jokic has never been known for shooting this much before. Even during his MVP season when teammates Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr. were injured often, he didn’t shoot as much as he does now. When Denver won the championship in the previous season (2022-23), their strategy was more balanced with both Murray and Jokic sharing the load.
However, Murray’s recent struggles have shifted more responsibility onto Jokic’s shoulders. His shooting percentages have dropped significantly since past seasons. As a result, despite Jokicโs heroics on court, Denver currently finds itself barely hanging onto seventh place in their conference standings.
Impact on Team Performance:
There’s evidence suggesting that when Jokic takes too many shots it doesn’t always lead to wins for Denver. During last year’s playoffs against Minnesota Timberwolves he had no choice but take numerous attempts due lackluster performances from other key players like Aaron Gordon or Porter Jr., which ultimately left him exhausted by Game Seven where they blew away what seemed like certain victory after leading by twenty points!
