The Las Vegas Summer League is buzzing with excitement.
While everyone is eager to see Lakers rookie Bronny James, there are many other players with famous NBA dads taking the court.
DJ Rodman, son of Dennis Rodman, played the last three minutes in the Clippers’ 87-78 win over the Nets on Sunday.
NBA Legacy in Action:
In those brief minutes, DJ grabbed three rebounds but also missed a three-pointer badly. It’s clear he’s following in his dad’s footsteps both in rebounding and shooting style.
Bronny James may be getting all the attention because of his superstar dad, but he’s not alone. The NBA is like a big family where kids of players and coaches often follow their parents’ paths. This trend is especially visible during Summer League when teams need to fill out their rosters.
Ron Harper Jr., whose father played with Dennis Rodman on the Bulls, joined the Celtics summer team. Scotty Pippen Jr. scored 16 points for the Grizzlies summer team on Friday. However, no sign of Bill Wennington or Luc Longley’s kids playing this year.
Fans might think it’s cool seeing these famous names on court again through their children.
Jameer Nelson Jr. is playing for the Spurs this season, while Trayce Jackson-Davis (son of Antonio Davis) suits up for the Warriors. Devin Carter (Anthony Carter’s son) plays for the Kings and A.J. Griffin starts for the Rockets; he’s got a double advantage being both a coach’s and player’s kid.
Despite all these familiar names, Bronny James’ games draw huge crowds compared to others in Vegas. Even matchups between top picks like Alex Sarr and Reed Sheppard don’t fill seats like Bronny does when he touches the ball.
So while Bronny brings star power thanks to his dad, many other NBA kids are making their mark too.
What do you think about all these NBA legacies playing together?
