Pacers Extend T.J. McConnell with Four-Year, $45M Deal

The Indiana Pacers and T.J. McConnell have agreed on a four-year, $45 million contract extension, announced by Priority Sports.

Contract Details and Player Stats

McConnell, now 32, was already set to earn $9.3 million for the 2024-25 season but is now committed to the Pacers for five years with a total of $54 million. Heโ€™s the 13th player this season to sign a veteran extension.

Over his nine-season career in the NBA, McConnell has played in 627 games (96 starts), averaging 7.5 points, 3 rebounds, and over five assists per game. Last season was his best yet with career-high averages: he scored 10.2 points per game while shooting impressively from all areas โ€“ including an outstanding three-point percentage of nearly 41%.

A Stellar Season Performance

In addition to scoring more than ever before, McConnell also had his highest efficiency rating (20.9) and usage percentage (23.7%) last year. He even placed seventh in voting for the Sixth Man of the Year Award.

T.J.’s Playoff Impact

McConnell’s contributions were crucial during Indiana’s playoff run to the Eastern Conference finals last season. Off the bench in those games, he averaged career highs across multiple stats categories: points (11.8), rebounds (3.1), assists (5.1), and minutes played per game (20.5).

He joined Michael Cooper as one of only two players ever to average at least ten points and five assists off the bench during a single postseason.

According to Basketball-Reference data from last yearโ€™s playoffs aloneโ€”he ranked second overall for total assists made by any reserve player!

A Memorable Game Against San Antonio Spurs

One standout performance came on March third against San Antonio when he scored a season-high twenty-six points while making thirteen out fifteen shotsโ€”a stunning eighty-six point seven percent accuracyโ€”in just twenty-six minutes!

This new deal means that Indiana keeps another key role-player locked-in alongside others like Pascal Siakam or Obi Toppin whoโ€™ve also secured long-term contracts recently.

Starting undrafted back then playing first four seasons with Philadelphia before joining Pacersโ€”itโ€™s been quite journey so far!
